5. Sergi Roberto

This one may appear slightly left field and may not cross Luis Enrique’s mind, but there would perhaps be more logic to playing Sergi Roberto in midfield. The La Masia graduate has become an unlikely successor to Dani Alves at right-back, saving the club from having to sign a replacement.

Roberto began his career as a central midfielder, but like so many before him, never quite hit the right note to establish himself. His performances have been mixed to say the least, but he is showing potential. At 24, his development is not yet done, and his close control and ability to pick a pass could certainly plug a hole for a short while at least.

Similarly to Denis, Roberto understands what it takes to perform for Barça, but his lack of presence would mean stepping in for Busquets may be a step too far.

But the logic for this actually comes from who would fill in at right-back. Many people, probably including Luis Enrique, gave Aleix Vidal very little chance of still being a Barcelona player by the end of the January transfer window.

Not only is the Catalan still at the club with less than a week until the deadline, but recent performances when afforded the opportunity have actually enhanced his chances of succeeding in the way it was hoped he would when he signed from Sevilla in 2015.

Those who like a good bet should probably look towards Javier Mascherano if they want to predict what Luis Enrique is thinking right now.
