5. Celta Vigo’s finishing needs a lot of work

Although Celta Vigo just knocked Real Madrid out of Copa del Rey, and looked great while doing so, the manager Eduardo Berizzo and the fans might not be too happy about the lack of finishing from their forwards.

The home side had a lot of chances throughout the match, as they had up to 10 shots with five of them on target. However, only one of them ended in the back of the net while their first goal came from Danilo’s own goal. Their conversion rate from chances created does not look good at all.

John Guidetti was mostly guilty for Celta’s misses in front of goal. He had a fairly good game, as the big Swede continually troubled Madrid’s defense with his physical presence and positioning. However, his awful touches and finishing stopped him from getting on the scoresheet despite getting some golden opportunities – like in the 40th minute when he was left all alone with Kiko Casilla but his volley went straight to the keeper, or the one right before the first goal where he could not beat Casilla from a close range despite having a lot of time to pick his spot.

Although the home side were wasteful with the amount of chances they got and their decision making in the final third were dreadful, their strong defensive line and a compact midfield had won them the tie. They will however need to work on their finishing in the training ground if they don’t want their defense to bail them out every game.
