Arsenal – April 2006

Wayne Rooney’s strengths have often focused on strength, pace and a drive towards success. His grit and determination have been at the heart of many of his 250 goals for Manchester United.

But like previous ones on this countdown, his control of the ball and scoring instincts can be delightful. An excellent example came in 2-0 victory against Arsenal in 2006.

The two clubs had incredible battles during this period, with both squads intensely aiming for victory each time they met.

Taking a long cross from the left wing, Rooney’s first touch leading to the goal is of the highest quality. The looping and curving pass would not be an easy task for any footballer, but Rooney’s skill certainly shines here.

Sharp awareness and positioning are quickly followed by his strong finishing ability, bringing an end to an exciting sequence for the squad.
