Bolton Wanderers – March 2007

Wayne Rooney has been fortunate to play with some of Europe’s best footballers during his time with Manchester United. Arguably his most talented team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo, helped to create this incredible sequence that covered nearly the entire pitch against Bolton.

A throw-in from Bolton landed to Ronaldo just outside United’s penalty area. He and Rooney were off and running from there.

A brilliant sequence saw Rooney’s pass open up space for Ronaldo, who showcased his jaw-dropping pace moving into Bolton’s half. Rooney truly deserves credit for managing to stay with the Portuguese superstar as he sprints towards goal.

An accurate and weighted pass to Rooney sees him take a touch and beat the goalkeeper with a cool finish. It was a moment that shows just how well these two talented players were able to mesh, and provides imagination of what they could have done had they played together longer.
