Help is on the way for Real Madrid

Gareth Bale is still a few weeks away from his Real Madrid return, but that doesn’t mean Los Blancos aren’t going to get a former Tottenham star back soon. Luka Modric is expected to rejoin the team’s training sessions this week.

Modric may not be quite the star that Bale is, but he’s a huge part of Zinedine Zidane’s squad success on the pitch. His ability to keep the ball ticking in the midfield helps the Real Madrid attack stay unpredictable for La Liga opponents.

Los Blancos have managed to hang on to their league lead in Modric’s absence, but they’ll be glad to see him back on the pitch. He isn’t the club’s best player, but he does provide a set of skills that no one else in the squad can provide.

That’s why it’s such good news for Zidane that Modric will be back on the practice pitch soon. The Real Madrid boss even claims it’s possible that his Croatian midfielder will be ready for this weekend’s match against Celta Vigo. That could give his club a massive boost in their quest to end the La Liga title chase early.

More from Real Madrid

Modric might not be the only midfielder to return to Zidane’s squad this week. It’s possible that James Rodriguez might also recover well enough to feature this weekend. I wouldn’t bet on either man to be involved, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. In particular, the Colombian would be well-served to make a quick return to try to stake his claim on increased playing time under Zidane.

As for Bale, he’s back in training on a limited basis, but the club don’t want to rush his return. They understand that forcing him back on the pitch too soon could have significant long-term consequences. They want Bale fit and firing for the stretch run, if that means giving him an extra week or two to recover now, so be it.

Luka Modric’s return is great news for Real Madrid, and bad news for the rest of La Liga. The rich are just getting richer with the return of their Croatian maestro.
