Willy Caballero Gets The Start

Six shots, six goals and his last Premier League save coming in the late minutes of the Burnley match . Those statistics say a lot about the performances of Claudio Bravo as of late—especially when you combine it with the discipline of Caballero has during their Crystal Palace match for the FA cup tie.

There is no doubt that Caballero is a talent man between the pipes, just ask any Liverpool fan about the Capital One Cup Final from a few seasons ago. He proves his capabilities most times he is called on to be the final guard of the Manchester City defense. Guardiola made a big decision to run with Willy instead of the struggling Bravo.

Personally, do I agree? Sure, you have to. Bravo has not been performing the way that he was expected when he signed late in the summer.  He was brought in for his footwork ability and to be the ‘12th man on the pitch’, but right now his confidence is shot and teams, managers and fans know that, dubbing him now as the ‘false no. 1’.

Recently, BBC Sport ran a study to show just how bad Bravo has been struggling. The number don’t lie.

PL keepers to have faced more than 100 shots in 2016-17 – the worst five
Rank Keeper/club Expected goals conceded Actual goals conceded Additional goals conceded
19/23 Fraser Forster (Southampton) 19.7 26 6.3
20/23 Claudio Bravo (Man City) 16.3 23 6.7
21/23 Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea) 42.2 49 6.8
22/23 Ron-Robert Zieler (Leicester) 7.7 16 8.3
23/23  David Marshall (Hull) 26.3 37 9.7

Not much to say here about Caballero, he saved the first shot on target and for City fans everywhere, that may be enough.
