Jurgen Klopp wants to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Liverpool

It’s not as if Liverpool have struggled to score this season, but Jurgen Klopp clearly isn’t happy with the striker options at his disposal. That’s why the German boss is pushing the club’s transfer committee to make a bold move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

Reports from England claim that the Reds are considering sanctioning a bid that would near Dortmund’s £68 million valuation of the Gabon striker. Unfortunately for Klopp, he doesn’t manage the only Premier League club interested in the prolific centre forward.

In particular, Manchester City have been heavily linked with Aubameyang. Pep Guardiola has grown tired of Sergio Aguero and sees the Bundesliga star as an ideal replacement. With City and Liverpool both in the frame, Dortmund are licking their chops at the prospect of a massive bidding war.

In fairness, Dortmund don’t want to part with their star forward, but at some point the transfer offers will be too large to ignore. Selling Aubameyang this summer would likely represent the club’s best opportunity to receive a massive transfer haul. He’s already 27-years-old and is unlikely to see his value increase in the future.

Liverpool’s interest in Aubameyang clearly signals Klopp’s lack of belief in Daniel Sturridge. The English striker has a ton of talent, but can’t seem to earn his manager’s trust. Certainly his lack of ability to maintain match fitness grates on Klopp’s nerves.

It would be interesting to see what Aubameyang’s arrival would mean for Roberto Firmino. Unlike Sturridge, Firmino certainly is a favourite of Klopp’s. He’s played  as a striker more often than not this season, but many see him as more of an attacking midfielder. It’s likely that Firmino would serve as both a backup to Aubameyang and a regular starter in Klopp’s attacking midfield trio.

The reality is that Liverpool will need for Klopp’s previous relationship with Aubameyang to help them win this transfer battle. If City are truly interested in acquiring him, they won’t be outbid. Liverpool have the financial resources to lodge a competitive offer, but they can’t outspend the Citizens.

The list of clubs interested in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will likely get longer before it gets shorter. Expect for both Liverpool and Manchester City to stay in the hunt until he signs with a new club this summer.
