Liverpool FC: 5 early summer targets for the Reds
Jurgen Klopp needs answers.
Liverpool FC is out of the top four for the first time since September. Their recent run of form is abysmal, and the return of Sadio Mane has not provided the instant impact that Reds’ supporters wanted to see. In addition, the club did not spend a single cent in the January transfer window despite their positive “net spend” – and while that topic is overall useless, it’s still the preferred way to compare club’s activity in the market.
Klopp has always been blunt about his strategy, though. It’s a long-term approach, always, because any one player purchased in the short-term wouldn’t have time to adapt. There are arguments out there about exactly how true that is, however, and whether or not Klopp is just passing the buck on the issue.
Regardless, should Liverpool finish in the top four come May, they will certainly need reinforcements for their re-entry into the UEFA Champions League. Even if they fail to qualify for Europe, it’s clear that the squad Klopp possesses just isn’t deep enough – or of enough quality – to keep up a continued run at a Premier League title.
Despite the January window just ending, here are five targets Klopp should keep in mind for the summer transfer window…
