New signing Gabbiadini starting brightly for Southampton
Gabbiadini is having quite the start to his Premier League career. After being signed from Napoli for four and a half years, there were big expectations around the young Italian striker. After just two appearances, it seems he will do just fine at his new club of Southampton.
Despite not playing much this season for Napoli, Gabbiadini did leave Napoli on somewhat of a high note in terms of scoring. He had a goal in three straight appearances for the Italian side, playing just 104 minutes in those matches.
His Southampton career started quickly, as the striker scored just 12 minutes into his first start for his new club. The Saints ended up losing 3-1 to West Ham that day, but Gabbiadini played the full 90 minutes and had a solid first outing. His next chance to impress came against bottom dwellers Sunderland, and he would not disappoint.
It took a little longer than last match, but Gabbiadini found himself on the scoresheet just 30 minutes into the match against Sunderland. Just before the stroke of half time, he grabbed his first brace for the club, scoring a lovely goal after a quick turn of the defender. The three goals in two matches have shown his true quality, and Southampton are eager to get him on the pitch as much as possible.
With Charlie Austin not due back until April, Gabbiadini will be sharing the striking duties with Shane Long. The duo will look to push Southampton further up the table, with the club currently sitting in 11th.
Their next match does not come until the 26th of February, when they travel to Wembley to take on Manchester United in the EFL Cup final. Gabbiadini will hope to continue his great form and further prove why he was brought to the club.
