Real Madrid want Eden Hazard

Just when it seemed as if Chelsea were prepared to embark on a Premier League dynasty, it seems that Real Madrid are set to deal them a cruel blow. The La Liga giants reportedly want to swoop in and convince Eden Hazard to trade life in England for a career in sunny Spain.

The only good news for Chelsea is that Florentino Perez is supposedly ready to spend big to acquire Hazard. The report in question claims that he’s willing to pair Alvaro Morata and a massive amount of cash in an effort to sign the Belgian.

You’ll forgive me if I have a hard time seeing this move happen. Hazard hasn’t always been the ideal soldier at Chelsea, but he’s been pretty darn good under Conte. It’s hard to imagine the former Italy boss being willing to part with one of his most talented attackers. That’s not what clubs typically do after they win silverware as most expect Chelsea to do this year.

Then again, Real Madrid are quite possibly the richest club in the world. If there’s a club that are more attractive to Hazard than Chelsea, they’re likely it. It’s not impossible that the Belgian could be tempted by the challenge of playing for the world’s biggest club. In fact, if Hazard is dead set on winning a Champions League medal, he might need to move to Real Madrid to realize that dream.

More from Real Madrid

I suppose the potential inclusion of Morata in a deal might at least encourage Conte to answer Real Madrid’s phone call. Quite a few outlets have reported his interest in reuniting with the talented striker. If (and it’s a big if) Chelsea do elect to move on from Diego Costa or Michy Batshuayi this summer, Morata will emerge as one of their top striker targets.

Even with Morata in the deal, Chelsea would still be justified to demand a ton of cash in any potential deal. Would perhaps £60 million plus Morata be enough to bring Chelsea to the negotiating table? It would if they’re thinking with their brains and not relying on emotion.

Eden Hazard is just the sort of player that could help Real Madrid move on from Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s going to require the club a fortune to bring Chelsea into negotiations. Good thing Real Madrid are one of the richest clubs in Europe. It’s an unlikely transfer, but will be a fun story to follow over the next few months.
