Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas has only started six games in the league this season but his statistics prove that he’s the most influential midfielder in the league.

Cesc Fabregas made his 300th Premier League appearance for the blues and scored one and assisted one in their 3-1 win over Swansea.

He has now made seven assists and scored three goals this season after only making six starts for Antonio Conte’s side.

To put those numbers in perspective, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has made 21 starts and has only made four assists while scoring only five goals.

Fabregas has the joint second highest assists in the Premier League now with 102 assists- level with Frank Lampard.  Only Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs has made more assists with 162.

Fabregas also set a new record with his 300th appearance in the Premier League being the most appearances ever by a Spanish player in the league.

He also hinted that he’s not planning on leaving Chelsea any time soon.

Frank Lampard was watching on as Fabregas equaled his assist tally. Lampard never got a chance to say goodbye to the fans when he left Chelsea.

The legendary Blues midfielder came onto the pitch at halftime and thanked the fans for their support.

Fabregas is clearly the most creative midfielder currently playing in the Premier League and his stats prove that. If Fabregas is given more starts this season he will likely end up getting the most assists in the league. His numbers so far are ridiculous despite not starting many matches.

He achieved a career record of 18 assists for Chelsea in the 2014/15 title-winning season and while he only got seven in the last disastrous season, it looks like he’s back to his best despite not starting every game.

But, Conte is right in not starting him in every match though in my opinion. Fabregas faded in the second half of the season in his two previous seasons at the club. It’s a widely known fact among Chelsea and Arsenal fans that Fabregas can’t last a whole season if he starts every game. So Conte is keeping him fresh by rotating him and he’s also getting the best out of the Spaniard as he’s fighting for his place over Nemanja Matic. This rotation and keeping him non-complacent is making Fabregas a better player.

His long passes are often inch-perfect and his on-field chemistry with Diego Costa is almost telepathic.

It’s no surprise that around a third of Fabregas’ assists for Chelsea have been scored by Diego Costa.

I believe that he’s the best midfielder in the Premier League and I’m sure many non-Chelsea fans will disagree with that but if you look at his statistics, and if you watch him play you’ll see why. He knows where he’s going to pass the ball before he even receives it. As soon as an opposition team gives him space to look up, It’s already too late. Fabregas will have found Costa or Hazard and placed a perfect through-ball for them.

Conte knows he’s important for the team despite his defensive weaknesses and there’s no doubt he will continue to deliver. With extra games next season too in the Champions League, Fabregas should prosper.

Fabregas is still only 29-years-old and it looks very likely that he will break Ryan Giggs’s record so long as he stays at Chelsea.
