Tottenham rode Harry Kane to victory

As expected, Tottenham and Everton provided fans with a captivating end-to-end fixture. Spurs emerged with all three points, but only earned a slim 3-2 victory. The final margin wasn’t indicative of the quality Mauricio Pochettino’s men showed throughout the match.

If the Spurs attack had been a bit more critical, this match could have been over in the first half. As it was, the home side only went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Things looked even more straightforward after Harry Kane put his side up 2-0 in the second half.

Then things got a bit fuzzy for Tottenham. Romelu Lukaku took advantage of a Jan Vertonghen slip and narrowed the gap to 2-1. Dele Alli put Spurs back up 3-2 before Enner Valencia equalized mere moments later from a set piece.

With all the peaks and valleys you might expect to see some uneven player ratings from the Spurs squad. Perhaps surprisingly, my marks are mostly pretty solid. Lots of Pochettino’s men played solid, but unspectacular matches.
