3. Champions League football

In a great moment of irony, it’s quite likely that Champions League football will help Tottenham defeat Arsenal in the transfer market this summer. If results hold, Spurs will be able to offer Barkley the opportunity to play football on the grandest stage in Europe. Arsenal, on the other hand, will only offer him the Europa League.

I can only assume that thousands of Spurs fans reading this piece had to go back and read that paragraph another time or two. After years of having Champions League used against them, Spurs may finally be in a position to wield its influence to their benefit.

Barkley hasn’t made any secret of his desire to play Champions League football and try to win trophies. At this precise moment in time, Tottenham are in a better position to offer him those things than their North London neighbors.

It might be a hard reality for Arsenal fans to accept, this Champions League isn’t going to work in their favour this time around. Instead, Spurs will be able to offer Barkley more bright lights this summer.
