Chelsea’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has rubbished Real Madrid rumours stating he’s happy and wants to stay at Chelsea.

Thibaut Courtois has previously stated that he wants to go back to Spain one day admitting that he liked the lifestyle there.

The 24-year-old Belgian had previously spent three seasons on loan at Athletico Madrid where he showed his world class shot stopping abilities leading Chelsea to ship Petr Cech off to Arsenal.

However, after making 13 clean sheets and in all likelihood winning the Premier League this year, Courtois is happy and wants a new contract at Chelsea.

Courtois told Spanish station Cadena Ser (per skysports) said that it was up to Chelsea whether he stayed or not.

"“I have two more years of contract left. In London everything is going well for me and I am happy.“At the moment we have not talked about a renewal. Now we are focused on winning the league, even though we have a ten-point advantage.“Both the club and the coach want to keep calm now and not think about renewals.“We will see at the end of the season whether they offer me something, but at the moment there is no offer. Would I like to be offered a new deal? Sure.“I’m very happy at Chelsea and if they want to continue with me, that would be great.”"

On reported interest from Real Madrid, Courtois added:

"“I don’t see myself at Real Madrid. I see myself at Chelsea, the club that six years ago saw me playing in Belgium and gave me the opportunity to sign for them. They also allowed me to be three years at Atlético [Madrid], which helped me to be the keeper that I am now.”"

Courtois said that he was battling for the FA Cup and the league title and said that he was ‘content’.

He also praised manager Antonio Conte and Chelsea for their ambition and vision.

"“I see that there is a long-term project to win trophies, not just domestically but also in Europe. There is a lot of ambition to play in the Champions League next season.”"

This is a significant development for Chelsea as they will continue to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

It’s a nice change of attitude from him, considering that he has previously angered Chelsea fans speaking about wanting to go back to Spain.

Speaking to a Madrid-based radio station Onda Cero in September 2016 he admitted that he was ‘in love with Spain’.

"“When I left Spain I had it clear in my mind that one day I was going to return there.‘From the first minute I fell in love with Spain for its people, lifestyle, food.‘I still maintain eating dinner and then an afternoon nap; most of the television I see is Spanish. I am half Spanish.”"

Chelsea fans will no doubt be ecstatic that he’s committed to the club long-term. It seems as if the 24-year-old has also learned from his mistakes previously in regards with speaking bluntly to the media.

He’s young but he has learned that the media will twist and cut anything you say to suit their newsworthy agenda.

The shot-stopper has made 43 saves this season and has improved drastically compared to last season and even the start of this season. There was a point early on in the season where he barely made any saves and every shot and one-on-one was going into the goal.

Since Chelsea got a new goalkeeping coach after Courtois said he couldn’t work with the old one, things have improved. His reflexes are up there with the best in the world and is just as good as David De Gea and Hugo Lloris.

This statement is also significant in that it shows that Chelsea have gained back their prestige and reputation since last season’s disastrous display.
