Fifth Chelsea captain choice: Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas has been a peripheral figure for Chelsea this season but has made some significant contributions for the team when he has been played.

Most of his appearances have been off the bench with only seven starts this season in the Premier League. But he’s made 12 appearances off the bench.

Importantly though he’s made seven assists and scored three goals despite his limited starts.

If he started every game then he would be much higher up in this list, possibly even my first choice for the armband. He’s consistently told the media and his fans via instagram that he’s committed to the club. He puts 100% effort in every game he plays and he just has that leadership quality that other Chelsea players don’t have.

He’s constantly been a team-player and he’s not one of those egotistical players that moans every time they don’t play. He has always maintained a good attitude which has earned him more starts for Chelsea given that he’s made Conte’s decision to drop him from the first team so difficult.

Fabregas wrote in an instagram post:

"I will continue to fight for this club until the very end and when called upon I will always give my very best. I’m fully committed to @chelseafc and my only goal is to help them win more trophies."

When Chelsea have been losing or drawing a game, Conte’s first substitute is always Fabregas. He knows they can rely on him to make an impact and take responsibility as the playmaker for the team.

He’s set up some crucial goals for Chelsea this season, including that magnificent pass that set up Diego Costa for the wining goal against Watford.

He was also captain for Arsenal at the young age of 21, back in the day, so he’s not new to captaining a team.

He could the Chelsea captain next season if he gets more playing minutes.
