First Chelsea captain choice: David Luiz (Geezer)

He’s Chelsea’s undisputed funniest players in the team. He’s a right geezer but he’s also an incredibly important cog in the 3 man defence.

He plays in the central role in the 3-4-3 and acts as a sweeper by clearing the ball anyway he can, either by winning his aerial duels or sliding in and tackling a player.

He has the highest clearances rate per game than any other Chelsea player at 5.5 per game.

He has been one of Chelsea’s best players this season and who would’ve called that just after Chelsea signed him? Barely anyone. Not even Chelsea fans.

Luiz first joined Chelsea in 2011 and spent three and a half years at the club before leaving to PSG in 2014. He won the Champions League, FA Cup and the Europa League in two seasons at Chelsea.

Luiz rejoined the Blues from PSG for £34m in August 2016 after two years in France.

He has become one of them most important signings for Chelsea this season along with Kante and Alonso.

He also bleeds Chelsea through and through. He apparently forced through the move on transfer deadline day to come back to Chelsea. He said that he wanted to go back as he always loved playing for Chelsea when he was last there.

He’s also a natural leader and you can always see him in matches motivating the other players and shouting. He said that he wanted to go back to Chelsea as a leader.

"“I like to organise, I try to be a leader in the dressing room too. I try to help my team-mates and the club – that’s why I came back,”"

He told Sky Sports that he loved the club.

"“I love the club, because I had the opportunity, because I think it was my purpose to come back. “Decisions in football happen quickly. When Chelsea came to me and said they wanted me to come back I was happy because I had a special moment here – one of the best in my career. I won the Champions League , the Europa League."

His agent Kia Joorabchian also said that Luiz was the one that forced the move through to come back to Chelsea.

"‘The move was David’s doing because I don’t think that PSG wanted to sell David, but he wanted to come to Chelsea, for sure. When Chelsea made a move for him, it was the end of the story."

The 29-year-old Brazilian defender is on his way to winning his first premier league title for Chelsea.

He’s known for his off-field antics too as he’s always joking around and laughing. This has changed the atmosphere at Chelsea which was so serious and grim after last season’s disaster.

His ability to lift the other players moods could’ve been an instrumental part in changing around the team’s form after their consecutive losses to Liverpool and Arsenal this year. Conte has figured out how to finally realize Luiz’s potential and is now one of the world’s best defenders.

He should be the Chelsea captain once Terry leaves.
