Manchester United make definitive move for Serie A star
Manchester United are chasing Ivan Perisic
It’s no secret that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is planning on significant roster changes in advance of next season. That’s precisely why The Special One’s already on the road working to convince one of his top transfer targets to make the move to England.
Reports from England confirm that Mourinho traveled to Zagreb this week to discuss a transfer move for Ivan Perisic. The talented winger is currently on International Duty for Croatia and that’s where Mourinho chose to meet up with him. It’s believed that United are willing to offer Inter Milan £30 million for his services.
Perisic very much fits the profile of a Mourinho signing. He’s already 28-years-old so he’s squarely in the prime of his career. United won’t need to wait for him to grow into his potential. Perhaps more importantly, Perisic has shown the ability to play quite a few positions effectively. His presence in the squad could paper over quite a few cracks in United’s squad.
United are interested in getting more goals from their midfield, and that’s certainly Perisic’s forte. He’s found the back of the net nine times in Serie A play this season. His Whoscored.com player rating average of 7.25 in league play accurately illustrates his quality.

In fairness, Perisic isn’t the sort of player who’s going to come to England and light the Premier League on fire. He doesn’t have that sort of star quality. What he could do, is provide Mourinho another useful option off the substitute’s bench. If he’s satisfied with that role, he could be an excellent summer addition for United.
That is the real question though. Is Perisic ready to accept a role off the bench at this point in his career? The money and fame of United are nice, but he’s not going to be a regular starter. If he wants to remain a regular member of his club’s starting XI, he may be better off sticking with his Italian club.

Even if it’s not Perisic, expect United to add a player like him this summer. They need another midfielder capable of playing multiple positions. Mourinho won’t rest until he succeeds in finding this sort of player for his squad.
