Tottenham overcame injuries to win at Turf Moor
At the end of last season it was quite obvious that Tottenham’s squad didn’t have the mental resolve to make a credible Premier League title push. In sharp contrast, yesterday’s 2-0 win at Burnley made it seem like this year’s version of Spurs is capable of just that.
In all honesty, it was a very strange affair. Tottenham looked sluggish during the first half and the flow of the match was shattered with injuries to Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks. The Kenyan destroyer went off with what looked to be a lower back injury, while Winks was sent to the hospital with what looked to be a serious ankle injury.
That’s the bad news for Mauricio Pochettino. The good news is that his troops responded exactly as he’d hoped in the second stanza. Eric Dier put Spurs ahead with an excellent finish after a corner kick and Son Heung-Min finished an easy chance to give his club a fairly easy win.
Things weren’t all rosy for the healthy Tottenham starters though. When you finish this piece you’ll see that I found the performance of one player completely unacceptable. Another starter wasn’t much better. It was a good result on the whole for Tottenham, but the player ratings will be all over the map. Read on and enjoy. As always, feel free to express your disagreement in the comments section.
