Thibaut Courtois looks to be staying at Chelsea

It isn’t polite for Chelsea fans to celebrate the end of Thibaut Courtois’ romance with Marta Dominguez, but I still bet it’s happening. The end of the relationship between the keeper and the mother of his child will make him more likely to stay at Stamford Bridge next season.

Courtois announced the couple’s split via a prepared statement to the press. Dominguez, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, will return to Spain with their daughter Adriana per the announcement. The two reportedly are parting on amicable terms, but it still should boost Chelsea’s odds of keeping their star in England.

Just think about it logically. In the immediate aftermath of an ended romance, the last thing you want to do is see your ex on a regular basis. There’s no better way to make sure you don’t run into her than living in an another country.

Sure, you could make the argument that Courtois might want to be closer to his children, but that is more likely to become a consideration in another couple of years. The young millionaire will probably want to enjoy his freedom in London a bit before he contemplates moving back to Spain.

Add all of that up, and it’s great news for Antonio Conte. Many sources (including Playingfor90) reported that Dominguez’s home shopping in Spain was a clear indicator that he wanted to secure a Real Madrid move this summer. Now we know the truth. She was shopping for a home for and the children, not her boyfriend.

While I’m sure Conte is concerned about his star’s happiness, he’ll be relieved about his willingness to stay at Chelsea next season. The last thing the Blues’ gaffer wants to do is try to replace a star keeper after a likely Premier League title winning season. Conte is determined to build Chelsea into Champions League title contenders. Doing that without Courtois would be a real challenge.

Thibaut Courtois’ romance with Marta Dominguez may be over, but Chelsea fans will be happy to extend their relationship with the Belgian keeper. The end of his relationship should keep in him England for the foreseeable future.
