Didier Drogba thinks Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea

If you’re inclined to believe Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, then you should be making plans for Romelu Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge. The legendary Premier League striker thinks Lukaku is keen to return to his boyhood club to prove he can thrive in such a challenging environment.

Curiously, Drogba also admits that Lukaku didn’t have a chance to really shine during his original time with the Blues. Lack of opportunity clearly hasn’t been an issue for the Belgian during his time at Everton. He’s been the driving force behind the Toffees’ attack under both Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman.

His prolific goal scoring this season makes it very obvious that he has the ability required to play for any club in the Premier League. Lukaku is likely going to finish this season with a Golden Boot trophy. The possibility of him slotting into Antonio Conte’s lineup instead of Diego Costa is a scary thought for the rest of the Premier League.

Per usual, Lukaku’s future is likely going to be decided by financial issues. Everton don’t want to part with their star striker, but understand they may receive a bid that will force them to sell. That still doesn’t mean they’ll let him go cheaply.

Instead, look for Koeman’s club to do everything they can to stoke a massive bidding war for Lukaku’s services. It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see Lukaku’s fee exceed the £89 million Manchester United shelled out for Paul Pogba last season. That signing may not have worked out perfectly for United, but it won’t cause Chelsea any concern.

The trouble for the Blues is that they aren’t the only club willing to pay that fee. Real Madrid and Barcelona might also jump in the transfer race. If they become involved, the required fee could exceed £100 million.

Romelu Lukaku is likely going to leave Everton this summer in exchange for a mountain of cash. The only real question is whether or not Chelsea will be able to bring their former striker home.
