1. Benjamin Mendy

Chelsea really need to sign a wing-back to provide cover and compete with Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses.

There are currently no wing-backs on the bench for Chelsea unless you count Nathan Ake as a wing-back.

With Champions League football next season plus a rumored switch to a 3-5-2 formation making the wing-backs even more crucial for attacking options the need to sign a good one is obvious.

Yet another Monaco player, Mendy is a great attacking wing-back who can defend as well. He would certainly make the Left wing back position his own given the chance.

While Alonso has been a great signing, there is still a need for more options and Mendy would probably be good enough to take over Alonso as the first choice left back.

Otherwise he could be moved over to the right in place of Victor Moses.

His attacking stats are great with 5 assists this season which for a defender is a fantastic return.

He’s also tall and strong which is a good quality to have in the wing-backs role for Chelsea as they are often exposed- especially in the right with the lack of height in Azpilicueta and Moses losing aerial duels. Dele Alli exposed this weakness twice earlier this season by scoring two headed goals on the right hand side of defence.

His defensive stats are also very good with 2.1 tackles per game and 1.7 interceptions.

With interest from Manchester United (seriously are they linked with every single player in the world at the moment?!!) and Manchester City, Chelsea need to make a decent offer.

Next: Diego Costa's future depends on Eden Hazard

But Chelsea have the advantage as they can guarantee Champions League football while City and United look like they may miss out.

Mendy is valued at around £26m but I think the fee will be around £30m at least.
