Tottenham defeat Arsenal in the Carling Cup semi-final

The second leg of the 2008 Carling Cup semi-final was the setting for one of Spurs’ famous victories over their rivals.

Round one at Emirates Stadium finished 1-1. At White Hart Lane it was a totally different scenario. Spurs dominated the match from start to finish.

Jermain Jenas gave his side an early boost with a goal in the third minute. Then Nicklas “Lord” Bendnter scored one of his own. Unfortunately for Arsenal supporters, Bendtner put it in the back of his own net.

It was more of the same in the second half. Robbie Keane and Aaron Lennon added to the home side’s tally.

Emmanuel Adebayor pulled one back for the Gunners in the 70th minute. By then it was too late.

Steed Malbranque’s strike at the end of regulation completed the thrashing.

Spurs moved on to the finals with a 6-2 aggregate score line. They then went on to defeat Chelsea at Wembley and lift the League Cup trophy.
