5. Victor Wanyama is the summer’s best signing

Spurs fans were pretty nonplussed when Wanyama was brought in from Southampton. Sure, he seemed like a decent enough player, but many fans wondered whether or not another midfield addition was really required.

It’s pretty obvious in retrospect that Pochettino knew best. He understand how fragile his club could be in the middle of the pitch. In particular, Moussa Dembele’s propensity to pick up a knock meant another midfield tank was necessary.

All Wanyama did against Arsenal was build on the excellent season he’s produced for Spurs. He was everywhere on the pitch. The physical Kenyan destroyer thoroughly dominated the middle of the pitch. He even found time to bomb forward in the attack on several occasions as if he were playing as a number ten.

There were certainly flashier summer purchases throughout the Premier League, but it’s impossible to top the value Wanyama has brought to Spurs. If you don’t believe me, just contrast his purchase price to that of Granit Xhaka’s.
