The back-line

Barcelona’s back-line certainly bring immense talent, with the Spanish giants’ full-backs amongst the best when pushing higher up the pitch. But with change certainly in the air around the Camp Nou, this aspect of the side may see new faces for the 2017-18 campaign.

Several defenders have uncertain futures ahead in Catalonia, from Javier Mascherano to Thomas Vermaelen. But with a need to add more talent, two interesting targets have come about over the past few weeks.

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin and Atletico Madrid left-back Theo Hernandez have been linked with the club, and each would provide a significant boost to the Barcelona defence.

Hernandez has enjoyed a stellar season on loan at Alaves this year and has shown potential as one of the most promising youngsters in Spain. Despite his big contract at the Emirates, Bellerin may find the temptation of joining Barcelona too much to pass up.

The Blaugrana’s new manager will certainly play into much of the decisions that will be made. This will likely ring true for both the players on the way out and the ones on the way in.

Barcelona’s back-line is an important element to success, and the coming summer will likely see a sharp focus in the transfer market.
