5. Being English matters

In case you haven’t noticed, a significant portion of Tottenham’s young core happen to be English. Adding another player who represents The Three Lions on a regular basis can only help build additional team chemistry.

Let me be clear, I’m not opposed to Spurs signing talented players from any country. As long as the player can play, I’m all for him joining the club. What I am saying, is that adding more talented players from England does provide Tottenham with an additional advantage.

I’d say the same thing about adding a young, talented Belgian player to the squad. Someone like Youri Tielemans would benefit from being mentored by the likes of Moussa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

In the same way, Barkley can benefit from playing with Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier for both club and country. The more football Spurs players are able to play together, the better teammates they will become. Barkley could be an important addition to Pochettino’s corps of young, English talent.
