Tottenham want to send White Hart Lane off in style

There’s been a lot written about Tottenham’s upcoming match against Manchester United. The vast majority of it has centred around the fact that it is Spurs’ last match at historic White Hart Lane. Instead of joining the sentimental masses, we’re choosing to focus on the tactics of the match itself.

The match sets up as a very interesting battle between Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino. Most expect United to rest a few key players after their taxing midweek Europa League semi-final. Even if they do leave a few luminaries on the bench, they have more than enough talent to test Tottenham.

For Spurs, much of the match will be a mental battle designed to block out the hoopla associated with the Finale at White Hart Lane. Pochettino’s squad need to remember that there’s a match to be played. Chelsea’s clinching of the Premier League title this week won’t help Tottenham’s focus either.

Of course, United may be distracted by their quest to win the Europa League. Ultimately, I expect everyone on the pitch to block out the noise once the opening whistle sounds. To that end, here are the five matchups that will determine the winner at White Hart Lane’s final match.
