Real Madrid are ready to pounce for David de Gea

As it turns out, Manchester United’s match against Tottenham might have some historical relevance for the Red Devils as well. In addition to it being the last match at White Hart Lane, it might also be one of David de Gea’s last matches in a Manchester United shirt.

Reports from Spain claim that Real Madrid have come to an agreement with Keylor Navas to buyout the remaining three years left on his current contract. That will make the club’s starting keeper a free agent. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who Los Blancos top target might be.

Real’s interest in signing de Gea isn’t a secret to anyone. The two sides (in)famously failed to execute a summer swap two years ago after an alleged fax machine malfunction. Zinedine Zidane will be anxious to make sure that nothing stands in the way of a fully executed move this summer.

Jose Mourinho, of course, would prefer to hang on to his Spanish keeper. De Gea’s been excellent this season and has propped up a sometimes fragile United back four. The Special One doesn’t want to add keeper to his summer shopping list.

More from Real Madrid

However, Mourinho does understand that he may be forced to let de Gea leave. After all, the allure of moving to one of the biggest clubs in the world that happens to be in your home country is undeniably powerful. Mourinho can be a machine at times, but he understands the personal ramifications such a move would have for de Gea.

That doesn’t mean that United are going to let him move on the cheap though. Count on the Premier League giants working hard to force Real Madrid into paying through the nose. After all, it’s not as if Real Madrid have much leverage after letting Navas walk.

This may be the rare summer transfer that all parties want to get worked out as early in the summer as possible. Don’t be surprised to see rumours of de Gea moving to Spain turn white hot in the near future.
