Will Manchester United be playing Champions League football?

Jose Mourinho has made it known that winning the Europa League is his top priority.

He has publicly stated that he would rather not play any more league fixtures this season in order to concentrate on the Europa League final.

Manchester United were in the running for a top four finish until late April. Two consecutive draws with Swansea and Manchester City were followed by losses to Arsenal and Tottenham.

It became clear that the Red Devils would finish outside the top four. Mourinho came to the realization that the only way his side could still qualify for next season’s Champions League is to defeat Ajax on May 24th in Stockholm.

Ajax are a tough side and United will have to be at its best to lift the Europa League trophy.

If the Red Devils don’t win, Manchester United will miss out on the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

James Rodriguez may want to rethink joining Mourinho’s side should the result not go the manager’s way.
