Chelsea FC: 5 players that need a loan spell away this summer
3. Kurt Zouma
I’m sure most of you will remember that horrific knee injury that Zouma suffered back in 2015 that has kept him out of action for so long. I still remember those piercing screams from the French defender after hyper-extending his knee and breaking it.
Since coming back from his injury, Zouma has failed to break into the first team again with Antonio Conte preferring the combination of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill in the back three.
Apart from a few FA Cup appearances and a rare start against Watford after Chelsea had already won the League, it’s clear that Zouma doesn’t fit into Conte’s thinking as a starter.

With Nathan Ake putting in some fine performances of late too, competition for the center-back role is tough and Zouma looks as if he might have fallen down the pecking order. Even with club legend John Terry leaving this summer, I don’t see how he can gain a starting place.
Zouma still looks pretty rusty and he looks as if though he’s still trying to gain match fitness. His defending has been average and he looks a shadow of the player he was before his injury.
A loan spell would do him a world of good. A loan spell to a French club like Marseille who are interested according to L’Equipe or at a La Liga club would be preferable.
The French center-back still has a lot of potential but he needs to be starting every match and not just be a reserve player.
