Kieran Trippier-8.5
With all of the concern over Kyle Walker’s future at Spurs, Kieran Trippier was clearly out to prove a point against Hull. While he wasn’t able to prove his defensive mettle against world-class attackers, he did put on quite an offensive display with his passing.
Really, it was exactly the sort of match we should expect Trippier to play against sub par opposition. When Spurs are able to enjoy long stretches of possession, he’s an excellent weapon out on the wing. His ability to play balls into the box give the Spurs attack real width.
That’s why he had two assists yesterday. It was an excellent performance against a weak opponent that Trippier should dominate. The real test will come when he comes up against attackers that can really trouble him on the defensive end of the pitch.
Ben Davies-8
Much of what I just said about Trippier could be applied here too. Largely his performance was exactly what Spurs fans should expect against relatively weak opposition.
The Welshman does get extra credit for his rocket of a goal late in the second half. I’m not sure if Davies had his eyes open when he hit it, but it really was a marvelous strike. It’s something he’ll need to do more of if he hopes to unseat Danny Rose.

Jan Vertonghen-6
If you’re going to single out any one player for costing Lloris a clean sheet, it would be the talented Belgian defender. He’s enjoyed a terrific season, but he wasn’t nearly up to his standard against Hull.
It was his giveaway that gave the Tigers their goal. I’m not sure if Vertonghen was bored or had a mental lapse, but it was a pretty ridiculous error. Vertonghen owes Lloris a nice meal after such a schoolboy mistake.
Toby Alderweireld-7
Vertonghen’s countryman just didn’t have much to do during the match. He deserves special praise for cutting out Hull’s one chance during the first half. He stepped in front of on oncoming striker to cut out a dangerous cross. It was his only contribution of note. It was really the only time he was called upon to make a play out of the ordinary.
