Philippe Coutinho should be honest with Liverpool fans
Liverpool fans are over the moon with Philippe Coutinho’s latest comments. The talented Brazilian is insisting that he wants to stay at Anfield for the long haul. He’s acting as if he is snubbing Barcelona in the process. By doing so, he’s insulting the intelligence of Liverpool fans around the globe.
Coutinho delighted Liverpool fans with his statement that he simply couldn’t understand why speculation had linked him with a move away from England. He went on to articulate his steadfast desire to see out his full contract with the Premier League club.
To put it quite plainly, this is a clear example of a player pandering to the crowd. Coutinho and his representatives have openly flirted with Barcelona for most of the season. It’s obvious that he would love to play with the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar at Camp Nou.
Unfortunately for the talented Brazilian, Barcelona haven’t expressed any interest in making a move. The English press has done their best to encourage a sensational move to Spain, but Barcelona officials haven’t given off the slightest indication that they’re interested in Coutinho’s services. The entire story has been a creation of Coutinho’s representatives and the gullible media.

That’s why I find Coutinho’s latest comments so ridiculous. He’s responding to a fictitious story he helped create. What is he really accomplishing by telling fans he wants to spurn interest from other clubs and stay at Liverpool? Absolutely nothing considering the one club he wants to purchase him isn’t showing any interest.
Even more insulting was the fact that Coutinho claims to have no idea where these rumours came from. No one other than he and his representatives would have the slightest motivation to float such stories. He can claim ignorance all he likes, but none of us should be so naive as to believe his story.
Next: Liverpool save Tottenham from themselves
Liverpool fans can celebrate the fact that Philippe Coutinho will be suiting up at Anfield again next season. They shouldn’t go overboard though. It’s not as if he has any better options at the moment. That’s the real reason he feels so comfortable committing his future to the club. He certainly hasn’t snubbed Barcelona interest as he’d like you all to believe.
