GK – Jan Oblak – Atletico Madrid

Few line-ups anywhere in Europe are as sound defensively as Atletico Madrid. One of the crucial reasons for this is the play of goalkeeper Jan Oblak, as the Slovenian international was once again magnificent for manager Diego Simeone’s side.

The 24-year-old has evolved into one of the best at the position, and proved his worth in goal with a spectacular campaign. Oblak led all La Liga goalkeepers with 15 clean sheets during the season.

With great size and incredible reflexes, Oblak’s ability to put himself in the best possible positions on the pitch was outstanding. Able to communicate effectively with his back-line was critical, and certainly helped as the clean sheets kept coming for Los Rojiblancos.

His defenders are of a high quality, with the likes of Felipe Luis and Diego Godin amongst some of the league’s best at their positions. But time and time again, Oblak was able to deliver when counted on, recording 63 saves in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid will be focused on returning stronger in 2017-18, in both their domestic season and in the UEFA Champions League. In order to do so, the club will require Jan Oblak to be playing at the highest possible level.
