Number 9: Sadio Mane v Everton

Score against the Blues and make yourself a hero! There a few goals that Liverpool supporters enjoy more than strikes against Everton. Goals that win titles and trophies are the only thing that compare to scoring against the Bitter Toffees in the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool’s rivals for a Champions League place had marked this game as a potential slipping up point for the Reds. They had only  squeaked a win earlier in the season at Goodison Park when Mane reacted first to a loose ball  from a Daniel Sturridge shot to slot home in the 94th minute. Everton had come into the game in fine form with confidence high. Sadio Mane’s goal in the eighth minute burst the bubble of their confidence and led to a decisive 3-1 victory for the Anfield side.

The Red’s came out of the blocks firing and one driving Mane run later they had taken the lead. The Senegalese forward picks up the ball on the right hand side of the midfield before embarking on a driving run to the left. The Everton defense cannot keep pace with the speedster as his close control and dribbling technique open up the Toffee’s backline. You can see the panic in the heart of the defense as they fall apart in the wake of this blistering run.

There is particular comedy in watching Everton keeper Joel Robles being pinned to the floor. He is unable to move as he is expecting a strike towards the near post on Mane’s left. Instead he smartly powers it into the right hand corner. The Spanish keeper has been fooled so badly that he doesn’t even dive for it!
