Number 6: Roberto Firmino v Swansea City

Half way through our list Brazilian Roberto Firmino makes his first (but not last) appearance. This goal came in the middle of Liverpool’s terrible January run. Out of the nine games in the first month of the year the Reds only won once. And that was in an FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle! The terrible month laid to rest any hope Liverpool had of a title challenge. This goal was a lone highlight of a painful start to 2017.

Gini Wijnaldum brings down a long ball to the left corner with a cushioned touch. This draws his marker the wrong way before he turns over a lobbed cross with his left foot. It finds Firmino in the box but the Brazilian still has much to do. He traps the ball perfectly on his chest before letting it drop on to his left foot. A swinging shot on the half volley buries the ball in the bottom corner. It is a series of exceptional skill and confidence from the two Liverpool players.

This strike brought the game into a tie but ultimately the Reds were to fall to a Gylfi Sigurdsson short-range winner. Firmino has reached double figures in both his seasons in England. Next year he needs to push on and get nearer the 20 goal mark to provide a strong compliment to whoever is playing up front for the Reds.
