Number 4: Sadio Mane v Arsenal

Another goal from the opening game of the season. Arsenal has a much depleted back line that day as injuries had struck in pre-season. Sadio Mane made the most of the opportunity on his first team debut to capitalize. The Liverpool fans felt disappointment that another transfer window had come without a net spend. The only player bought to bolster the front line was Mane. His transfer was viewed as a good purchase but he wasn’t the stellar name to get the fans excited. He was another Southampton purchase. This goal changed those expectations.

Callum Chambers shows everyone why he is not a left back. Mane chases down a long pass into the left corner and the Arsenal defender is thinking about pinning him out by the touch-line. A burst of pace and the young English defender knows he’s in trouble. Mane drives to the byline, looking like he is going to cross but he has this defense just where he wants them.

As Chambers is scrambling to keep up he gets help from Per Mertesacker who comes to aid his teammate. The BFG versus Mane? There is only one winner. It only take one sharp turn inside and the entire Arsenal defense is wide open. He nudges it into the middle of the box where there is no help from the Gunner’s midfield.

He then makes the powerful left foot drive into the  corner look simple. As soon as it bursts the net he turns and sprints towards Klopp to celebrate. It was the beginning of very impressive first season at Anfield and the Kop are now looking forward to seeing this exciting talent in his prime in the years to come.
