Chelsea FC transfer news: Blues are in pole position to steal Griezmann from Manchester United’s grasp.
Chelsea FC transfer news: The Blues have a player that Atletico Madrid want in Diego Costa while Manchester United have nothing to offer Atletico in return. Chelsea must be rubbing their hands in glee.
Costa has stated recently that the only club he would leave Chelsea for is Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s and Griezmann’s future is uncertain. Questions remain as to whether Diego Simeone will leave, while Griezmann seems set on leaving the club as well.
Atletico Madrid will not want to keep a player who wants to leave and so if they sell him they will want a big money offer for him. But, even with a lot of money, it still doesn’t guarantee they will be able to replace him with a world-class striker.
Enter Diego Costa into the fray, and the deal seems likely. Atletico Madrid would be keen on securing Diego Costa’s signature for next season if they are to let Griezmann go. So Chelsea are in a great bargaining position to pull off a coup.
The Blues could offer Diego Costa plus money in return for Griezmann.
How much money? Well that’s uncertain but with Costa’s value at around £60m, a cash deal on top at around £20m should be enough to sway the deal in Chelsea’s favor.
Chelsea FC have a chance to really fire the bullet into Manchester United’s and Jose Mourinho’s hearts by beating them to Griezmann’s signature.
The Blues have a tumultuous and unsteady relationship with the former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. And it’s no secret that United want Griezmann.

Whether or not Griezmann could adapt to Premier League football is another question. The Frenchman will be used to the slower pace of the La Liga. But, he may suit Chelsea’s counter-attacking system. Griezmann is well used to counter-attacking of course, given Simeone’s tactics at Atletico.
Just imagine. Eden Hazard tearing up the left wing with the ball glued to his feet while Griezmann and Morata/ Lukaku power forward. Hazard cuts inside and passes it to Griezmann outside the box. Griezmann flicks it on deliciously to Morata who then scores with a clinical finish.
Okay that’s some imaginative fiction I just thought up, but it’s actually possible, Chelsea have a ton of money to spend this summer after the sale of Oscar and also the bonus from winning the Premier League. Manager Antonio Conte will also be heavily backed by the owner Roman Abramovich this summer with a few key signings in the horizon.

Big money offers aside. Atletico will not want to sell Griezmann unless they secure a decent replacement. World-class strikers are hard to come by and so Diego Costa is a perfect makeweight in persuading Atletico to sell Griezmann to the Blues.
