Number 3: Paris Saint Germain

This one has been doing the rounds for a few weeks, even before his transfer request was made public. It makes a ton of sense. Paris Saint Germain are coming off a disappointing year. Their four-year title streak was cut by Monaco. The young Monaco side came tearing through Ligue 1 and outperformed the Parisians in the Champions League. This is unacceptable to a club and owners who have gotten used to success.

More from Leicester City

PSG have been disappointed with the performances of Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore. He was a key part of the new owner’s initial success but is now no more than a bit-part role player. The club is looking to rejuvenate their attack and make the most of star players such as Lucas Moura and Angel Di Maria while they are in their prime.

Mahrez was born and raised in France and played for Le Havre which just a few hours north of Paris. PSG are one of the highest paying clubs in Europe so wages wouldn’t be an issue. They tick the boxes for Champions League football and potential silverware too. I’m sure this is Leicester’s preferred destination for their star. They really don’t want to see him at one of their Premier League competitors.

So why wouldn’t Mahrez end up there? Sometimes moving home comes with more complications than benefits. There is also the risk of being a squad player. The league itself is also just a two team competition right now. He may want to continue he challenge of the Premier League.
