Number 2: Manchester United

The priority for Manchester United is a striker. Wayne Rooney looks set to leave and Ibrahimovic’s future is unknown with injury and retirement. French youngster Anthony Martial has been underwhelming and faces a fight for his Old Trafford future.  While most of the transfer speculation will go to the striker position we shouldn’t ignore the other creative roles.

The Old Trafford club is well stocked in central midfield with Pogba, Mata, Mkhitaryan and Herrera all thriving in those roles. It is in the wide areas where Man Utd have been found lacking. Former wingers Young and Valencia play more in defense these days. Jesse Lingard and Martial are temporary wingers at best.

If Riyad Mahrez were to find his way to Old Trafford he would immediately be the best wide player at the club. There is some similarities between Claudio Ranieri’s counter attacking Leicester title winners and Jose Mourinho’s current United side. Mahrez has proven his willingness to work and defend when necessary. His set piece ability would be the best they’ve had since Giggs retired. He would be a star in the Manchester red.

The money is there for both transfer fee and wages. Winning the Europa League and Champions League qualification make the present very appealing. The star power of Old Trafford and Jose Mourinho is a convincing enough blueprint for future success. There is a 24 point gap to climb between them and Chelsea. Reinforcements have to be brought in. Watch this one as it is a real possibility.
