Manchester United need to buy two Real Madrid stars

If officials at Manchester United were listening carefully, they should have a pretty good idea of what they need to do in order to lure Alvaro Morata to England. The talented Spanish striker gave the Premier League club a massive hint yesterday. Time will tell if Jose Mourinho and company are able to pick up on the not-so-subtle hint.

In the aftermath of Spain’s International friendly against Colombia, Morata expressed the desire to play with James Rodriguez again next season. The two were on opposite sides of the clash between the two nations, but evidently enjoy life together at Real Madrid.

Morata’s preference would be for both stars to remain with Los Blancos, but that seems highly improbable. Both Morata and James have been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer. Curiously, Manchester United have been one of the most prominent clubs to be linked with both La Liga stars.

Many believed that United had won the race for James earlier this summer. While those reports proved to be way off base at the time, there’s nothing to stop Mourinho from going in for James now. After all, the Special One’s attacking options have been diminished with the revelation that Antoine Griezmann won’t be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.

As of late, United have emerged as one of the most vigorous suitors for Morata. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury means he’s unlikely to return to Old Trafford next year. Mourinho clearly wants a dominant centre forward to lead his line. Morata is one of the most talented forwards available this summer. For all his talent, he can’t seem to break into Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI on a regular basis.

More from Real Madrid

While Morata didn’t mention playing with James at United directly in his comments, it’s pretty easy to see he would find that appealing. United’s clearest path at bringing Morata to England might be bringing James with him.

Purchasing the pair would be expensive, but the two stars could provide Mourinho’s attack with a massive upgrade. Morata could be the answer to the club’s striker problems while James could prove to be the perfect number ten for the club. Officials at United would also enjoy the massive influx of cash from jersey sales for the duo’s kits.

Next: Mourinho is absent from United's transfer efforts

Don’t be surprised to see Manchester United step up and try to pull one of the most audacious double swoops of the summer. Bringing Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez to England could give Mourinho what he needs to launch a credible assault on the Premier League title.
