It’s up to Real Madrid to make a deal happen
Kylian Mbappe has decided that his next club will be Real Madrid. His emphatic decision now leaves Monaco officials with a series of difficult decisions to make.
Reports from Spain claim that Mbappe has informed Monaco officials that he wants to take his talents to Madrid. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he will suit up for Zinedine Zidane next season. The precocious French starlet is willing to wait until 2019 to make his dream move.
Mbappe is concerned about his ability to become an immediate starter at Real Madrid. Even if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves this summer, Los Blancos are blessed with a ton of talent up front. Mbappe’s lack of experience against La Liga competition could leave him as a substitute for Zidane.
He knows he’ll be the main man for Monaco if he stays. That’s why he’s willing to do his boyhood club a favour and stay for another season. He could continue to grow under the watchful eye of Leonardo Jardim. A move to Real Madrid next summer could see him walk into Zidane’s starting XI.

Of course, Mbappe’s desire to move to Real Madrid isn’t the only meaningful factor in this transfer saga. Monaco officials have big decisions to make as well. Chiefly, they need to decide when the right time to part with their prized asset will be.
Complicating the matter for Monaco is PSG’s involvement in the race for Mbappe. It’s very possible the Parisian giants will be willing to pay the highest transfer fee for the talented forward. While Mbappe might want to move to Real Madrid, it could be in Monaco’s best financial interests to send him to PSG instead.
Then again, the idea of sending Mbappe to one of their fierce Ligue 1 rivals could shift the matter back into Real Madrid’s favour. While Monaco would like to keep Mbappe no matter what, they’re realists. They realize that his head is turned and they’ll be forced to sell him. Jettisoning him to a foreign league would be a much more palatable move than empowering a French rival.
In the end, Monaco can still use PSG’s involvement as leverage against Real Madrid. They should force Los Blancos to match any transfer offer if they want to sign Mbappe. It’s not as if Los Blancos lack the financial resources to make a deal happen.
