West Ham are after Arsenal reject Olivier Giroud, hoping to sign the striker in the coming weeks

The Hammers have been in the news quite a lot in the past few weeks, targeting a handful of players to add to their squad. One man they hope to add is Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman is struggling to get consistent first team action with the Gunners and West Ham desperately need a goal scorer in the team. This transfer could be the perfect move for both parties.

West Ham struggled most of the year and finished 11th at the end of the season. It is clear they need to add new players this offseason on both sides of the ball. They have already signed Zabaleta after he was released from Manchester City, adding experience to their backline. The addition of Giroud would be the boost to the frontline West Ham fans are looking for.

It has been a frustrating season for Olivier Giroud at Arsenal. An overall lack of play time saw him used as a super sub in most situations. This was great for Arsenal fans, who were almost guaranteed a goal when Giroud came on to the pitch. Giroud, however, was none too pleased with his involvement.

Scoring 16 goals in all competitions this season shows just how vital Giroud is for the club. He impacts the game in many ways, holding up play and winning headers in the midfield and in front of goal. It took him less than a minute to impact the FA Cup final after coming on, grabbing the match winning assist against Chelsea.

More from West Ham United

West Ham is also after Chelsea youngster Bertrand Traore. The attacker had a solid year with Ajax and would better compliment Carroll should he join the Hammers. Lyon are also after the Burkina Faso international, so West Ham will have to act quick if they want to bring his talents to the Olympic Stadium.

If West Ham do end up signing Giroud, they will hope for the same production he gave Arsenal. Pairing him up top with Andy Carroll would be a bit of a redundancy, as the two have similar play styles.

Regardless, Giroud will be hoping for nothing short of a starting position. He has proven multiple times that he has the quality to produce goals and will undoubtedly want to prove Arsenal wrong if he is transferred.
