Arsenal are in a tough spot with Alexis Sanchez

There’s no question that Arsenal desperately want to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez this summer. Unfortunately, they may not be willing to offer him enough money to keep him for the long haul. If they can’t come to an agreement with their Chilean talisman, they’ll want to make sure he leaves England.

Unfortunately, there just aren’t that many suitors for the silky attacker. Loads of clubs would love to have him in their squad, but only a handful can afford his wages. Even more troubling from the Arsenal perspective is the reality that the majority of those clubs reside in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger’s nightmare scenario is that Alexis will end up playing against the Gunners in the league. If Pep Guardiola gets his way that nightmare will become a reality. Reports from England claim that Alexis has his heart set on a move to City as well. He sees Guardiola as the perfect manager to help him achieve his full potential.

Alexis isn’t basing his desire on blind faith. Remember that he and Guardiola worked together at Udinese in the past. He knows what to expect from the Spanish gaffer.

The fact that City are also blessed with world-class talent all over the pitch doesn’t hurt either. Whereas Alexis has to carry the Arsenal attack, he could slot in as another cog in Guardiola’s offense. Putting him on the wing with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and David Silva seems almost unfair. He could be just the player City need to ascend to the top of the Premier League.

That’s precisely why Arsenal may need PSG to help them avoid their worst case scenario. With the recent revelation that Bayern’s interest in Alexis has cooled, the Parisian giants may be the only club outside England that have the motivation and wealth to sign him away from the Gunners. Again, this isn’t about Arsenal getting their dream scenario. It’s purely about them taking the worst option off the table.

Arsenal will continue to push Alexis to sign a new contract for the majority of the summer, but they need to keep PSG in the loop. The Ligue One giants may provide the Gunners the only escape route to ship their talisman outside the Premier League.
