Real Madrid are left with two easy options

Manchester United have jilted Real Madrid at the transfer altar when it comes to their interest in Alvaro Morata. Fortunately for Los Blancos, they’ll face an easy time resolving their own issues with the talented striker.

English sources claim that Jose Mourinho’s club have agreed to pay £75 million to bring in Romelu Lukaku. That obviously rules the Red Devils out of the chase for Morata. Thus ends a lengthy transfer saga between United and Real Madrid.

The question now becomes what Real Madrid will do with their talented striker. Fortunately, they’re blessed with two very good potential courses of action.

The easiest solution for Zinedine Zidane would simply be to keep hold of Morata. Selling him never seemed like the best idea for the club. Morata always wanted more playing time, but it’s not as if Zidane’s club is littered with world-class centre forwards.

After Karim Benzema, things get pretty dicey for the Spanish giants. It’s not impossible to think that Morata could overtake his French teammate to become the starter next season. If Morata really puts his mind to overtaking Benzema, there’s little doubt of his ability to succeed.

More from Real Madrid

Of course, Real Madrid are under no obligation to keep Morata. The market for his services hasn’t evaporated either. In fact, one of United’s biggest rivals now find themselves in desperate need of a starting centre forward.

The most likely scenario is that Chelsea will shift their transfer attention from Lukaku to Morata. Antonio Conte knows the Spanish striker well from their time working with one another at Juventus. The Blues certainly possess the financial resources required to complete the deal as well.

The only issue outstanding is what price Chelsea might be prepared to offer Real Madrid. It’s distinctly possible that Roman Abramovich might not be willing to pay the same fee for Morata that he was prepared to stump for Lukaku.

Next: Manchester United playing risky game with strikers

Whether or not Chelsea move to take United’s place, Real Madrid remain in an enviable position. They have a young, talented striker who they can afford to sell. That represents a very scarce asset in today’s transfer market. At worst, they can retain a very valuable striker. At best, they can receive a fortune in return for his services.
