Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles appears set to return to Spain this summer, with the arrival of Jordan Pickford likely to keep him on the bench if he stayed.

Multiple reports have surfaced that suggest that Robles could leave Goodison Park this summer, with the Spanish keeper unlikely to retain the starting role he held for much of last season.

Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town are reportedly interested in signing the former Atletico Madrid youth product, but a number of Spanish clubs are also in the running.

Malaga, Deportivo La Coruna, Las Palmas and Robles’ boyhood club Getafe are all said to be interested in the 27-year-old.

With Spain the most likely destination should he opt to leave Everton, reports have also suggested that Robles’ preferred destination is Getafe, with club president Angel Torrres stating that talks are ongoing.

Though, a permanent move to Getafe may not come immediately – with a season-long loan deal also reportedly more likely initially.

The one-time Spain Under-23 international has never quite managed to secure the No.1 shirt during his four-year spell at Goodison Park, often sitting behind Tim Howard and Maarten Stekelenburg before being given extended opportunities between the sticks.

Last season was Robles’ real opportunity to claim the No.1 shirt as his own, with the Spaniard putting in 2.7 saves per match whilst appearing 20 times in the Premier League for the Blues.

His positive performances helped Ronald Koeman’s team reach 7th in the league, securing Europa League football this season thanks to Manchester United’s success in the tournament.

But Koeman has wasted no time bringing in new players that he believes will improve the team, including England Under-21 international Pickford.

Everton fans appear to have mixed feelings about Robles’ potential departure this summer, with many wishing him the best while others appearing to be delighted that the club is finally ready to move on from a player that never truly played at the level expected.

The transfer saga of Joel Robles is still ongoing but, with reports beginning to appear more frequently in recent days, it shouldn’t be too long before the Spanish stopper is unveiled at a new club.
