Could Joe Hart really move to City’s biggest rivals?

Just when you thought that the David De Gea leaving United saga was finally calming down, a new wrench gets thrown in. This time it is a report that Jose Mourinho is interested in the former Manchester City keeper.

With De Gea firmly holding onto the top role and Sergio Romero having a good hold on the backup role after a stellar Europa League campaign, there is only one conclusion to be drawn from this: De Gea is still angling to return to the Spanish capital; where he says he wants to play.

Jose Mourinho has always held the English keeper in high regard. Foreseeably he would bring Hart in to be the number one guy; bringing him back to the Premier League after he spent this past season in Torino after being cast off by Pep Guardiola across town.

Let’s face it people: De Gea is leaving at some point. At a certain point, it would be beneficial to just let him go. That way we don’t have to face the question about this every single summer.

But if De Gea is truly committed to United this season, then why bother pursuing Hart at all? If he is to come to United, then De Gea is leaving. Could there be a secret deal where De Gea and likely a ton of cash goes to Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo comes back to United? Not likely but I can dream.

Recently, United has ramped up their pursuit of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan to fill out the left wing spot. There has been some difficulty agreeing on the fee. Honestly I wasn’t sure Perisic was worth it in the first place. Ronaldo would be, no matter what the cost is.

However, West Ham is also interested in the goalkeeper and depending on what you read a deal is close. That also said, I’m not sure that I would be interested in Hart at all. He is 30 years old so his best days are probably behind him. Not just that he allowed 62 goals in 36 Serie A appearances while on loan this season.I would be relieved if West Ham ended up signing Hart. However, during silly season don’t believe anything is final until a pen is put to paper.

Even if De Gea leaves before the transfer window closes, I would just as soon go with Sergio Romero. It would give Romero his chance to show what he can do at the highest level and he’s earned that chance. If that does not work out, then look at bringing in either Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester City (perhaps even in the winter, depending on how the Foxes are doing) or Gianluigi Donnarumma from AC Milan next summer. United doesn’t have to panic if De Gea leaves.
