5 player to replace Neymar: Ousmane Dembele

There is no question that Barcelona want Ousmane Dembele. Earlier in the summer their interest was well reported and even linked to Neymar’s uncertain future. The question is do they see him as able to replace Neymar?

More from FC Barcelona

For a start Dembele has seen most of his action of the right hand side. American wonderkid Christian Pulisic has been the player getting more time on the left hand side. In the most recent round of international games Dembele was also on the right with Kylian Mbappe on the left side.

Their initial moves to buy the Frenchman were more about bolstering their options than replacing a star. The 20-year-old had an impressive first season in Germany but did not always make the first team. It is a huge leap from their to succeeding one of the biggest names in world football.

His star is in the ascendancy and every sign is he has both the talent and the mentality to become a leading forward in European soccer. However Barcelona may feel that waiting for him to develop is not enough. There is a small window left of Messi and Suarez in their prime. With Real Madrid ahead of them they will need some more immediate help than just Dembele.

Now that there is an abundance in cash in the Barcelona coffers I can see this deal being done alongside one of the others. Keeping the youngster as an exciting prospect and the heir apparent to Messi who is 10 years his senior.
