Several Tottenham stars have a lot to play for against Roma

It’s dangerous to put too much stock in a preseason friendly, but there are quite a few Tottenham players that need to play well against Roma today. If they aren’t able to impress Mauricio Pochettino soon, they could find themselves on the outside of the manager’s plans for 2017-18.

In fairness, this is just Spurs’ second friendly of the summer. No player is going to make or break their future tonight. That doesn’t mean that everyone in the squad is feeling comfortable at the moment either.

It’s not just the young players that are fighting for their place in the squad. More than one or two big money signings are struggling to make their way into Pochettino’s good graces. A good showing against Serie A competition could be enough to keep them in North London. A clunker against Roma could lead to several big names finding their names on the summer transfer list.

Then again, Pochettino’s Academy stars do have a lot to play for as well. A good showing in the preseason could land them in the senior squad. A series of anonymous showings could land them an obscure League One loan.

Read on to discover the five Spurs stars with the most to play for today against Roma. You should be watching each name on this list very closely.
