2. Kyle Walker-Peters
While Trippier has a lot at stake against Roma, it’s Kyle Walker-Peters who is the right back with the most to play for. He has a legitimate opportunity to play his way into becoming Trippier’s primary backup.
His initial showing against PSG drew mixed reviews. Offensively, he looked like an ideal fit for the way Pochettino likes to see his fullbacks get forward. Predictably, his defensive game looked much more erratic. He was caught out of possession for PSG’s second goal. Yes, he could have received more help on the play, but he was nowhere near supporting Hugo Lloris.
Unlike some players on this list, Walker-Peters doesn’t need to stand out. On the contrary, the English starlet needs to avoid attracting too much attention. A quiet, steady 45 minutes against legitimate opposition is just what he needs to provide his club.
Walker-Peters is the most talented right back on the Tottenham roster, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for Premier League competition. Roma will provide him a stern, but potentially very beneficial, test.
