3. Cover at striker

Much like the centre back issue, the question of acquiring striker help boils down to a referendum on one single Tottenham star. This time, the debate focuses on whether or not you believe Vincent Janssen is capable of finding his feet in England.

Personally, I’m in favour of giving Janssen another season to prove his worth. That does not, however, mean that I don’t think Tottenham should be eyeing other strikers in the transfer window. I firmly believe that a club with genuine Champions League aspirations need to have three quality strikers.

At the moment, it’s very much up in the air if Tottenham have more than one. Janssen works tirelessly on the pitch, but he seems to have left his finishing boots in Eredivisie. He simply has to score more goals if he wants to earn Pochettino’s trust. That may seem too simplistic for some, but it’s really the only thing he isn’t doing at the moment.

Pochettino and company would be wise to invest in a different sort of backup striker this summer. Instead of a bull in the box like Janssen, someone with real pace should be the target. Tottenham need a number nine who can stretch the opposition with his speed when things bog down late in a match. That typically isn’t a cheap purchase, but it’s one Tottenham need to make soon.
