4. Paulo Gazzaniga
The first name on this list is likely the most underwhelming for most Spurs fans. Bringing in a third choice keeper isn’t what many Tottenham fans have in mind when it comes to bolstering the squad this summer.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that club officials have been on the lookout for a third keeper for some time. Most believed it would be Pau Lopez after last season’s year-long loan, but negotiations with Espanyol broke down completely this summer. That leaves Tottenham with a quality starter in Hugo Lloris, a solid backup in the form of Michel Vorm, and a pretty big hole in the pipeline behind them.
That’s why no one should have been surprised when reports linking the club to Gazzaniga popped up. He’s familiar with the Premier League time due to his time at Southampton and that certainly appeals to the club. Pochettino doesn’t seem interested in bringing in a third keeper who isn’t going to be ready for English football.
I actually think the deal for Gazzaniga may already be complete. Tottenham are wisely holding off on announcing the deal because of the ridicule it would draw from the club’s unhappy fan base. Look for Gazzaniga to be announced after Spurs are able to publicly release news regarding a signing more likely to impact the starting XI next season.
